Raccoons are easy to recognize due to their black and white facemask along with their ringed tail.
What They Eat
Raccoons are omnivores and will basically eat anything- from fruit, nuts to frogs and insects. Urban raccoons are notorious for scavenging through dumpsters and garbage cans for food therefore it is important to make sure all lids are securely placed on top.
Where They Live
Raccoons living in residential areas often make their dens in chimneys, garages, attics, under sheds, porches, and decks.
Life with Humans
Due to the Greater Toronto Area being so populated, this provides the raccoons with plenty of sources of food and shelter. Most raccoons are no longer scared of humans especially in urban areas due to the amount of interactions we have with them. We must learn how to live with them and prevention is the best solution when it comes to them invading your property.
Raccoons are tremendously smart, curious animals and have the ability to open containers to access food.
